Introduction to Child Development
Child Development is offered as an option at KS4, the specification we follow is WJEC Home Economics Child Development. Students will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of the child which is inter-linked through the study of the family, community and the responsibilities of parenthood.
Skills and knowledge acquired will be relevant and transferable, enhancing career opportunities and provide progression to GCE Health and Social Care.
The aim is to make the lessons relevant to our students and the world they live in today and to that end, we encourage questioning and discussion as part of the learning process. The course also provides opportunities for students to develop resources which are suited to the needs of children.
Child Development at KS4
All students start the GCSE course in year 9, allowing for an extended teaching period for the qualification. This course is designed to give students an opportunity to extend and apply their skills, knowledge and understanding of the development and care of children from conception to the age of 5 years.
