Curriculum Overview

Moving from one stage of the national curriculum to the next is an important step in a student’s school life. The curriculum at Litherland High School is designed to challenge students, present new opportunities for learning and enable them to develop new, transferable skills. Students will be expected to show an increased level of maturity and a growing sense of responsibility for their own work and progress. Year 7 students will study a number of subjects that they may not have been previously introduced to and will study other subjects in greater depth.

The curriculum programme at Litherland High School for Years 7 to 11 is designed to facilitate academic excellence, to open students to a broad range of subjects and to enhance their skills through a variety of learning styles. Students will study practical subjects such as Drama, Music, and Physical Education  alongside English, Humanities, Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages, RE, Science and Technology. Opportunities related to social, moral, spiritual and cultural development enrich the curriculum alongside personal, social and health education programmes.  Strategies to develop skills in literacy and numeracy are firmly embedded in each subject area.  At Litherland High School we are committed to providing an enjoyable, broad, balanced, high-quality curriculum which fully prepares students for higher education and employment and enables students of all abilities to excel.

All GCSE subjects follow a 3 year programme to facilitate the mastery of skills within each subject area. This approach ensures that students are able to study subjects in greater depth to maximise their progress and achievement.
