“Mathematics expresses values that reflect the cosmos, including orderliness, balance,  harmony, logic, and abstract beauty.”

Deepak Chopra

The Mathematics department aims to develop students' abilities to calculate, to reason logically, algebraically and geometrically, to solve problems and handle data. We believe we have a responsibility to the students to not only guide and support them through their school education but to also foster skills which will prepare them for the demands of life.

Maths at KS3

This is a two year key stage over years 7 and 8, which has no national assessment at its end. Student progress is monitored over this period to ensure that they achieve or exceed their expected level of progress each year.

Maths at KS4

Students start the GCSE course in year 9 allowing 3 years to cover the required content. There is a strong emphasis on reasoning and problem solving which will help students become confident and skilled in maths and also benefit them in other curriculum areas.

The course is 100% examination and a thorough revision package exists prior to an external exam.

The exam board is AQA.
