Public Speaking Competition 2016

This year saw another fantastic Public Speaking Competition with the standard higher than ever.  This year’s theme for the event was ‘Romeo and Juliet’ with a dramatic welcome video and some scenes from Macbeth to warm up the audience! The three finalists were Daisy Pomford from Year 7, last year’s winner, Joel Thornton from Year 8 and James Hollinshead from Year 9. The guest judge this year was Peter Etherington, authour of several books about Hillsborough. Daisy was up first with her speech about ‘My Precious Things’. Joel was up next with his speech on ‘The Pressures on Pupils’.  James gave the final speech with his topic of ‘If I were Prime Minister’.  After a lot of deliberation the top prize was awarded to Daisy Pomford with James and Joel as runners-up.  Our guest judge was extremely impressed with the standard of the speeches and praised the students for their confidence and presentation. Our three finalists were then invited to be guest judges at the Horizon Primary Public Speaking event. Well done
everyone!
