Mrs Walshe is the Head of Year 7. The role of the Head of Year is to monitor the progress of all students in Year 7 throughout the academic year. The aim is to ensure that support is given to all students enabling them to have the best possible chance of reaching their targets across the curriculum. Each morning our school day begins with Tutor Learning Community time. Within this time tutors will conduct standards checks to ensure students are appropriately equipped for their school day.
Standards checks include:
- Pen - students may use black or blue ball point pen.
- Uniform - students must wear the full school uniform.

Students will receive weekly updates of their attendance and punctuality enabling them to track their eligibility for the end of year Activity Day.
In Year 7 students participate in the Accelerated Reader programme with a view to raising literacy levels and promoting reading for pleasure.
Throughout the year, there are a number of monitoring points when subject teachers will assess student progress. This information will be used by Mrs Walshe to identify any issues in order to provide appropriate support in addition to celebrating success! Provisions for students who are not making expected progress include:
- Progress Journal (monitored by Mrs Walshe)
- Tutor Journal
- Subject specific intervention which may include study support, HLTA intervention, enrichment days and provision of additional resources
At the end of each term, Year 7 have a special celebration assembly to ensure that students who are making outstanding progress and go the extra mile are rewarded.
