Instrumental Music Tuition Programme

At Litherland High School we pride ourselves in offering your child a wide range of Arts enrichment which can help to reduce stress, develop confidence and can help to aid progression within lessons across curriculum subjects.

We offer instrumental lessons with professional tutors on a private/small group basis. In some cases, this will lead to graded exams, which can be linked to performance tables and can be beneficial to your child’s progress 8 score at the end of Year 11.

Lessons are offered in 20-minute time slots, once per week throughout the school day. Your son/daughter will receive a tuition passport, which will include their allocated time slot and a progress practice log.

We offer high quality personalised lessons, tailored to the individual to develop skills to a high standard. The lessons are available in the following disciplines - popular music vocals, musical theatre vocals, classical guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar, piano, keyboard, music production, drums, ukelele and violin, woodwind and brass.

Our peripatetic staff are highly qualified musicians in their chosen areas, performing regularly around the North West and further afield. Many are also qualified classroom teachers, music examiners, composers and music education researchers who are experienced in working with children and young people. All peripatetic staff hold enhanced DBS certificates and are employed by Sefton Music Hub within Sefton Council. They are fully trained in safeguarding procedures within Litherland High School.

Private Music lessons can cost up to £20 per half hour session if sourced outside of school, but at Litherland High School lessons are subsidised by the school so that the parental contribution can be kept as low as possible. Prices will be as follows and will be payable half-termly, via the school payment system (please see link below) Payment plans can also be arranged if required:-

£7 for a 20-minute private session per week

£3 for a small group session per week (No more than 4 per group)

Lessons for GCSE Music students remain free of charge subject to satisfactory attendance

Throughout the year we will provide opportunities for our peripatetic students to perform and present their progress to a range of different audiences e.g. at primary schools, within the community and at whole school events. We will inform you of such events in due course.

Your child will need access to a musical instrument at home in order to practice and make progress. Most musical instruments may be hired from Sefton Music Service if you do not wish to purchase them while your child is in the early stages of learning instrument.

If you have any further questions regarding our programme, please do not hesitate to contact me at school, or by email to discuss this in more
