Vacancy For Parent Governor

What are we looking for?

Our school Governing Body is made up of Trust Appointed, Parent, Staff and Associate Governors. Our Governors may come to us through a variety of routes and with a range of different backgrounds, skills and experiences, but they are all volunteers who work together for the benefit of the School and are the link between the School and the community it serves. We are currently looking for 1 Parent Governor and would be delighted to hear from anyone who has:

  • time and commitment to spare
  • an interest in the performance of the school
  • a desire to contribute to and represent the community
  • an open and enquiring mind
  • the ability to look at issues objectively
  • the confidence to ask questions and join in debate
  • a willingness to listen and make informed judgements
  • the ability to work well with others

If you match the above description, you may be the very person to become a Parent Governor at Litherland High School.

What can we offer?
  • A chance to develop skills in strategic management
  • The opportunity to work with our team of governors and staff in improving our School
  • Training to develop an understanding of specific School management issues
  • A sense of achievement in making a difference to our School
  • The pleasure of helping students reach their potential

To contribute to the strategic direction of the Trust/School by contributing to discussions at local governing body meetings

To hold the senior leaders to account by monitoring the school’s performance

In conjunction with the Trust, to ensure the school staff have the resources and support they require to do their jobs well (including the necessary expertise on business management, external advice where necessary, effective appraisal and continuing professional development, and suitable premises) and that the way in which those resources are used has impact

When required, serve on committees of the Trust and local governing body

Follow the principles and commitments set out in the Trust’s Code of Conduct for Trustees and Local Governors.

NB: The role of a local governor is largely a challenge and scrutiny role; they do not manage an academy day-to-day, but are required to oversee its long-term development in conjunction with the Trust.
